When your house is ready for a new coat of exterior paint, you may have a hard time deciding on a color. There are a lot out there, and with so many styles and designs, it could be a tough decision. Fortunately, there’s something right on your property that could help you make that decision: your landscape!
With trees, flowers, garden statues, and pathways that could make up your landscape, you already have a palette to go off of. The following are some things to keep in mind when coordinating your paint color with your spring landscape.
Stick with a Coordinating Neutral
If your home is painted a neutral color, it will become a beautiful backdrop for the different colors you have in your landscape. Be sure it’s a neutral that goes well with what you already have. For example, if you have gray statues or stones incorporated in your landscape, you may want to stick with grays and blues for your exterior paint. If your stones and other features have a brown tone, you may want to consider tans or creams for your paint color.
Add a Pop of Color
Your door and your shutters are some great features where you can add a pop of color. If there’s just one flowering tree that has a vibrant red flower, but the rest of your landscape is filled with yellow, green and pink, matching that vibrant red might be a great choice. It pulls in the design of the landscape without overwhelming the look with too much of the same color.
Keep the Trim a Lighter Tint
Whether you decide to stay with the same color for the trim, or use a different color, be sure it’s a lighter tint. That allows the trim to stand out, adding a measure of depth to your home. White is always a dramatic look for any home with any landscape, but you could also go with a very light gray or tan if that’s the color palette for your home and yard.
