Paint Our Town Proud Honorees – Lindy Orr & Crystal Emmons
Join us in congratulating this month’s Paint Our Town Proud honorees: Lindy Orr (right) and Crystal Emmons (left). This dynamic duo serves as president and vice president, respectively, of Dripping Springs Helping Hands, Inc. With all their gifts to our community through this valuable organization, we want to shine the spotlight on them to thank them for their outstanding service.
Lindy, a former teacher, has put her talents to use in every way from leadership to driving the truck to San Marcos for food pick up. “I’ve been volunteering at Helping Hands for about 7 years now,” said Lindy. “I am a very strong believer that no one, adult or child, should go hungry here in America, here in Texas and absolutely, here in Dripping Springs.”
Crystal, a former nurse who volunteered and then started serving on the board in 2008 adds valuable knowledge to her volunteerism. “We serve 60-70 families a week through the pantry alone for nutritional needs, and keep our shelves stocked for times like recently when the weather turned icy, and families needed more supplies,” she said.
Peggy McGinn, another volunteer who was at the pantry when we stopped in to surprise them, shared her insight on their roles and contributions. “Lindy is a great speaker, and she demonstrates confidence for our organization. And she is an advocate as a lifelong learner.” She added, “Crystal is an incredible leader and offers a wealth of information with her background in nursing. I can’t say enough about both and their great work for Helping Hands.”
When asked why they do it (and how they have been able to keep volunteering for so long), Crystal quickly replied, “For the ‘thank yous’ and the gratitude from clients who we serve from the pantry to Elf Project and school supplies. Moms will tell me, ‘I couldn’t do it without you.’”
“As a teacher I worked to teach things to kidos to allow them to become the best humans they can be. You provide them with all different kinds of information to help them be successful. At Helping Hands, we are now helping the adults by providing things they need (food, financial assistance, school supplies, and Christmas gifts for their kids) to continue to help them be successful in providing for their families. We educate them about other agencies and groups that could assist them now or in the future. It is so gratifying to see that sigh of relief or the look of joy when they receive things that will help benefit their family,” Lindy added.
Color World Paintingis proud to salute these two women for painting our town proud with $25 gift certificates to a local favorite, Rolling in Thyme & Dough, and our own paint can of goodies.
Helping Hands is a 100% volunteer organization, and our success is absolutely, totally, beyond a shadow of a doubt due to our incredibly generous community! Without their support and financial assistance, we could not accomplish our mission of helping neighbors, helping neighbors!
